Can the "exception" log record that looks different from the regular log records and is spanned across a bunch of lines be indexed as one Splunk event? The whole log goes to the same sourcetype.
To split the events I used in props.conf
`SHOULD_LINEMERGE = false`
`LINE_BREAKER = ([\r\n]+)`
Although all the regular info-level log records have the timestamps, without this configuration some log records would be merged together into the same Splunk event probably because of the very high data density coming from this log.
Here is the issue:
Sometimes the log would have an "exception" record spanned across multiple lines with the lines number 2 and after not having the timestamp in them but they mostly would start with `"\sat\s"` pattern. It would look like this:
<info-level record><the start of the exception record><tab>at ...<tab>at ...<tab>at ...<tab>at ...<info-level record><info-level record>
I added
`MUST_NOT_BREAK_BEFORE = \sat\s`
to the sourcetype stanza but it didn't help and the exception was broken into multiple Splunk events after the indexing.
Is there a way to keep the exception as one Splunk event without affecting the regular info-level log records?
Thank you.

How to extract Message field from a new WinEventLog source?
Hi,
Splunk is unable to parse the Message field for a new WinEventLog source. These are AD changes(Recorded by ChangeAuditor) into the local Windows logs on the Domain Controller which are then picked up by Universal Forwarder just like other default WinEvent Logs. But Splunk doesn't split the contents of Message field from this source as it does for say WinEventLog:Security. Here are two examples:
07/12/2018 08:12:48 AM
LogName=InTrust for AD
SourceName=ITAD Directory Changes
EventCode=3
EventType=4
Type=Information
ComputerName=DomainController.x.y.z
User=DomainController$
Sid=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
SidType=1
TaskCategory=%1
OpCode=None
RecordNumber=23398213
Keywords=Classic
Message=AD object was successfully modified.
Client Computer : X.X.X.X
Object DN : CN=,OU=,DC=x,DC=y,DC=local
Object Class : computer
Object GUID : CN=DOMAINCONTROLLER,OU=Domain Controllers,DC=x,DC=y,DC=z Attribute Name : servicePrincipalName
Action : Append
Old Value :
New Value :
Request ID : {8C7D7}

Object Class : user
Object GUID : CN=,OU=,OU=,OU=,OU=,DC=,DC=,DC= Request ID : {0637DFC03183}
One difference between these and the logs from Security is that there is no newline once the Message description ends. Came across another answer which describes a fix for this exact scenario but that doesn't seem to work. https://answers.splunk.com/answers/49310/field-extraction-in-message-field-of-windows-event-log.html
Here are the new props/transforms adapted for this source as per the link.
props.conf
[source::WinEventLog:InTrust for AD]
REPORT-MESSAGE = welitad-message, welitad-eq-kv, welitad-col-kv
KV_MODE=none
# Note the below settings are effectively legacy, in place here to handle
# data coming from much much older forwarders (3.x & 4.x)
SHOULD_LINEMERGE = false
MAX_TIMESTAMP_LOOKAHEAD=30
LINE_BREAKER = ([\r\n](?=\d{2}/\d{2}/\d{2,4} \d{2}:\d{2}:\d{2} [aApPmM]{2}))
TRANSFORMS-FIELDS = strip-winevt-linebreaker
transforms.conf
[welitad-message]
REGEX = (?sm)^(?<_pre_msg>.+)\nMessage=(?.+)$
CLEAN_KEYS = false
[welitad-eq-kv]
SOURCE_KEY = _pre_msg
DELIMS = "\n","="
MV_ADD = true
[welitad-col-kv]
SOURCE_KEY = Message
REGEX = \n?([^:\n\r]+):[ \t]++([^\n]*)
FORMAT = $1::$2
MV_ADD = true
Only change was to add the "?" for the REGEX to make newline optional. Is there anything wrong in the way this is getting implemented? Also, to make sure these AD logs pass through these new stanza's I also tried `[source::WinEventLog:InTrust...]` instead of `[source::WinEventLog:InTrust for AD]` but no change in results.
**Note**: Above changes were done in props/transforms for Search Head. `/opt/splunk/etc/system/local`
Any ideas on what could be going wrong?
Thanks,
~Abhi

need line breaking for the following data generated as CSV
Good day All, My skill in regex is very limited. Can anyone help me with the props.conf for the following data? ITs being generated by a small application called SpeedFan. Its calculating the temperature of my machines and writing it to a CSV. my data looks like below. I can work on real time as the time requirement as well because the csv is being generated on real time. I can also do field extractions later during search phase as well which is not a problem. Only thing i cant get splunk to do is split these lines into individual events.

How to override automatic key-value extraction which contain single quotes?
We have got some data in below format
2018-07-26T01:00:01 empID=12345 empName='Spider Man' department='IT'
2018-07-26T01:00:02 empID=12346 empName='Super Man' department='HR'
When splunk extracts (automatically), the fields contains single quotes `'`
eg `empName='Spider Man'`
But customer doesn't need to see the single quotes !!
Any Better way to remove the automatic extraction ,so we can say the value is `Spider Man` and NOT `'Spider Man'`
(I understand, I can write regex to do this. But prefer if we do via props.conf or transforms.conf in simplest way possible)

But I when create an input in the dbconnect and applying that sourcetype, the source is not overriden.
